As part of the 1st Kesselbornfest, OstseeSparkasse Rostock (OSPA) celebrated the construction progress of one of the largest current construction projects in Rostock together with its project partner NEXT Generation Invest AG (NEXT) from Frankfurt and prominent guests. On a three-hectare site on Albrecht-Kossel-Platz between the main train station and the city hall, a mixed-use quarter with five forward-looking buildings, connected by extensive green spaces, has been under construction since the 1st quarter of 2025. With the ceremony, OSPA also honored its 200th anniversary.
The highlight of the celebrations was the sinking of a time capsule in the courtyard with Lord Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger, District Administrator Sebastian Constien, Bernd Brummermann, Chairman of the Board of OSPA, Karsten Pannwitt, CEO of OSPA and Hannes Ressel, Managing Director of Kesselborn GmbH & Co. KG and CEO of NEXT. In addition, Hannes Ressel and Tanja Volksheimer, Head of Fund Management at NEXT, will discuss sustainability and biodiversity with the guests in a panel discussion. Various bands and a DJ rounded off the program with music and entertainment.
Karsten Pannwitt, CEO of OstseeSparkasse Rostock, says: “Something very special for Rostock and the region is being created on the Kesselborn. We are pleased that we have now been able to give our colleagues and our partners a first insight on the occasion of our 200th birthday. They also had the unique opportunity to actively participate in the project via the vote on the design of the façade of the multi-storey car park.”
Hannes Ressel, CEO of NEXT Generation Invest AG, adds: “After many intensive years of planning and preparation, we are pleased to be able to celebrate the start of construction of the Kesselborn lighthouse project at the same time as the 200th anniversary of OSPA. We are particularly excited that our shared vision of a forward-looking campus that combines sustainable energy management, innovative design and excellent quality of stay is meeting with such great interest among citizens.”
An important project milestone was already reached in May: With TRIBE, the Accor Group’s design hotel brand is moving into the striking Skydeck high-rise, which will be the tallest of the five buildings in the quarter at 80 metres on 17 floors. In addition to the hotel, office space and a gastronomic offer are being built there.
By 2030, all five architecturally coordinated buildings are to be completed. The project aims to create a lively, future-oriented urban district that reconciles ecological responsibility, social aspirations and urban quality of life.
In addition to modern office and restaurant space, apartments, a district-owned multi-storey car park with around 650 parking spaces and e-charging stations as well as social infrastructures such as a daycare centre and educational opportunities are being built. The concept is complemented by local amenities, leisure and sports facilities as well as spacious green and open spaces.
