The Landwind Group and Light:Guard GmbH have signed an exclusive framework agreement to fit wind turbines with demand-controlled night-time lighting (BNK). The agreement runs for three years and covers around 130 turbines in more than 20 wind farms.
BNK minimises the flashing of wind turbines. To do this, the system monitors the airspace around a wind farm. If an aircraft approaches, it cancels the suppression of the lighting and the red light flashes as before.
The new contract further expands the collaboration between the companies: Landwind and Light:Guard had already signed a framework agreement back in 2021. Since then, the Light:Guard system has ensured that the lighting at Landwind’s sites remains switched off when the airspace is clear. Most of the wind farms covered by the new contract are new builds; some are repowering projects.
Landwind Managing Director Bärbel Heidebroek emphasises: “For us, good neighbourly relations mean that local people and communities benefit from the energy transition. The community contribution paid to local authorities plays just as much a part in this as measures to reduce light pollution. Demand-driven night-time lighting ensures that the night-time illumination of our wind turbines is significantly reduced. With Light:Guard, we have a reliable partner at our side for this. We look forward to a long-term partnership.”
Light:Guard is equally optimistic about the continuation of the partnership. Senior Sales Manager Claudia Flörke oversaw the contract process and was recently present at the opening of the Landwind wind farm in Söllingen, Lower Saxony. Light:Guard has also supplied the BNK equipment for that site.
“It was great to see first-hand how our collaboration works and how our system contributes to the bigger picture. This really motivates us to continue the partnership and, together with Landwind, to make the nights around their wind farms darker,” says Claudia Flörke.
