Swisspower Renewables opens the Prösen solar park in Wainsdorf: Trilocation combines wind, solar and storage

On 15 October 2026, the Swisspower Renewables Group officially opened the Prösen solar park in Wainsdorf. The ground-mounted photovoltaic plant is estimated to supply around 4,200 households with renewable electricity and, together with the Elsterwerda wind farm, forms part of an energy park that combines wind power, solar power and, in future, battery storage at a grid connection point.

At the official opening ceremony, Swisspower Renewables welcomed representatives from the municipality of Röderland, the owners of the project sites, as well as numerous project partners and companies involved in the construction. The ground-mounted photovoltaic plant has an installed capacity of 14.5 MWp and generates around 14,900 MWh of renewable electricity annually. This is enough to supply approximately 4,200 households and save around 5,400 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

Together with the Elsterwerda wind farm, which also forms part of the Swisspower Renewables Group, the Prösen solar park uses the grid connection point at the Gröditz substation. This shared infrastructure forms the basis for a hybrid feed-in comprising wind energy, solar energy and, in future, battery storage systems. This enables existing grid capacity to be utilised more efficiently and additional projects at the site to be integrated in a cost-effective manner.

The existing energy strategy is set to be further expanded in the coming years through the planned Prösen-Nord expansion project and the installation of a battery storage system.

The municipality of Röderland will also benefit from the project in the long term. Under the municipal participation scheme set out in the Brandenburg Special Levy Act (BbgEESG), Swisspower Renewables pays a levy of 2,000 euros per megawatt installed. This levy is borne entirely by Swisspower Renewables and makes a direct financial contribution to the local authority. Furthermore, Swisspower Renewables has been actively involved in the region for many years. As part of the opening ceremony, the company presented donations to the Wainsdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade and to the Röderland Schools’ Support Association. In doing so, the company is underlining its close ties to the region.

“With this solar park, we are further driving forward the expansion of renewable energy and contributing to an affordable energy supply. This is also a key foundation for the competitiveness of the European economy. Furthermore, battery storage systems will play a key role in the future in integrating renewable energy into the market. They make solar power available even when the sun isn’t shining. That is why we intend to implement storage solutions both in this energy park and in future solar projects,” says Lars Hieke, CEO of Swisspower Renewables AG.

With the Prösen solar farm in Wainsdorf, the Swisspower Renewables Group is consistently expanding its commitment to the energy transition in southern Brandenburg.
