An office that people enjoy coming to, where everything works from the very first moment and, above all, where you can work really well. With this vision in mind, 1000 Satellites is now also present in Karlsruhe. The company has opened its first Karlsruhe satellite in the historic Malzwerk on the iWerkX campus at Rintheimer Straße 23, covering an area of around 2,500 square metres. Work has been underway there since July 2026, with the official opening set for 19 November.
With Karlsruhe, 1000 Satellites is also continuing its regional growth strategy: building on its previous focus on the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, the company is developing a network of locations across the south-west of Germany. Frank Mörsch, General Manager for the South-West at 1000 Satellites, is responsible for this development. “Our aim is not simply to open as many offices as possible. We want to create an intelligent network of workspaces that suits people and the needs of their companies. Karlsruhe represents an important next step in this regard. We are no longer thinking solely in terms of individual cities or the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, but increasingly in terms of a cohesive south-western region,” says Mörsch. “Our standard remains the same at every location. Anyone who comes to us in the morning should go home in the evening feeling satisfied that they’ve really achieved something.”
Not just any office: productivity is the focus
1000 Satellites deliberately does not see itself as a traditional co-working provider. The focus is not on the office as a lifestyle product, but as a professional space for focused work, productive collaboration and face-to-face interaction. The company therefore prioritises a thoroughly thought-out working environment: ergonomic computer workstations that comply with workplace guidelines, intuitive technology, professionally equipped meeting rooms and a personalised service that makes day-to-day working easier.
“Above all, a good workspace has to be functional. Without lengthy set-up, without technical hurdles and without unnecessary distractions. With us, people can arrive, plug in their laptop and get started. At the same time, we create a warm, personal atmosphere where people enjoy working. It is this combination of professionalism and a sense of well-being that makes the difference for us,” explains Federico Morales, Business Development Manager for the South-West at 1000 Satellites. The concept is aimed in particular at companies that want to provide their staff with high-quality workspaces close to home and to complement their central office locations effectively. At the same time, spaces are available for teamwork, workshops, meetings and off-site events.
Industrial history with a future: the malting plant as a new satellite
The former production building on the iWerkX campus combines historic industrial architecture with a modern working environment. 1000 Satellites offers 14 flexible-use offices here for companies and project teams, as well as four meeting and event rooms. These can also be booked by external companies for workshops, seminars, client meetings and other business events. In doing so, the Malzwerk upholds the quality promise of all 1000 Satellites locations, whilst at the same time developing its own, locally distinctive identity.“We don’t want to create run-of-the-mill office spaces. Every Satellite should have its own character whilst being instantly recognisable as part of 1000 Satellites. The Malzwerk is an excellent example of this: a building steeped in history that we are transforming into a contemporary workplace. Professionally equipped, inviting and, above all, designed to ensure that people can work well here,” says Mörsch.
From the Rhine-Neckar region to Karlsruhe: The future of the office needs satellite
offices
This expansion is driven by a fundamental conviction. The traditional model of a central office to which all staff commute every day is becoming increasingly out of step with today’s working world. Instead, companies need flexible, combinable workspaces that are tailored to the actual needs of their teams. 1000 Satellites therefore relies on a decentralised network of professional office locations. Employees can work in a focused environment close to home, teams can meet as required, and companies can organise their office space more efficiently without compromising on quality, ergonomics or face-to-face collaboration.
“The future of the office does not consist of a single location, but rather of an intelligent interplay between different places of work,” says Gregory von Abendroth, co-founder and managing director of 1000 Satellites. “With our network, we are creating the conditions for this. It is not just about flexibility, but above all about the quality of work. After all, an office has fulfilled its purpose when people enjoy coming there and are productive.” Karlsruhe fits into this strategy. From 1000 Satellites’ perspective, the technology-oriented economic structure – comprising established companies, innovative SMEs and start-ups – offers favourable conditions for new, decentralised working models.
The first companies are already using the new satellite
The fact that the concept is generating interest is already evident even before the official opening. Among the first companies to move into the Malzwerk is diva-e Conclusion, which occupies around 600 square metres there. Cerebricks is also once again opting for 1000 Satellites. Following on from the Glückstein satellite in Mannheim, the company is now also utilising flexible office space at the Malzwerk in Karlsruhe for its staff from the region. “For us, everything just clicks at the Malzwerk. The location is superb, and we can use the offices flexibly as and when needed. This is ideal for scaling our business. Added to this are the excellent service and the ‘all-in’ principle of 1000 Satellites. This takes the pressure off my team and me, allowing us to focus fully on what matters most,” says Tony Polakel, Managing Director of cerebricks.
Official opening on 19 November
On 19 November 2026, from 5 pm, 1000 Satellites will unveil its new premises as part of an official opening ceremony. Customers and partners, as well as representatives from the business and political worlds, are invited. In addition to a tour of the premises, the focus will be on dialogue and networking within the region. “With the Malzwerk, we don’t simply want to provide space; we want to establish a location where companies enjoy working and where new contacts can be forged. For us, the opening is therefore also the starting point for integrating the Malzwerk even more closely into Karlsruhe’s business community,” concluded Mörsch.
