The experts at the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) recognise the high sustainable construction quality based on the Cureus system approach. This special approach to the planning and construction of inpatient care facilities has now been certified as part of the multiple certification, in line with the DGNB motto “Sustainability in series”. All elements from the Cureus approach are based on the Cureus standard building specification, which was the focus of this process.

On the basis of the basic certification, Cureus ensures the sustainable execution of its projects and can now have the individual construction projects simplified and thus more quickly and cost-effectively certified in terms of certification fees and audit fees in accordance with the requirements of the DGNB. In the end, a higher building and expansion quality will be created through user-friendly, energy-efficient and low-emission construction, which will also benefit the environment, especially with regard to the users.

“Our approach geared towards standardization and efficiency now also brings significant time and cost advantages here and provides another example of scalability,” explains Christian Möhrke, CEO of Cureus, adding: “We are thus significantly reducing the documentation effort for the individual projects at the DGNB and at home. We are particularly pleased that we only had to adapt our standard building specifications to the requirements of the DGNB to a manageable extent, which means that we have already planned and built sustainable buildings at a high level.”

Basic certification process

The basic certification is a process lasting several months that was completed together with experienced specialist planners from the Cureus and DGNB partner network. Cureus worked together with the specialists from iproplan® Planungsgesellschaft mbH in Chemnitz. The certification process begins with the preliminary discussion and project registration, continues with the coordination of the framework conditions and the submission of documents and evidence. At the end there is the basic certificate and an associated specification. Within the framework of this, economic, technical, processual, social and ecological criteria are considered. The central element here is the standard construction specification of the system care property, which had to be adapted to the DGNB specifications to a manageable extent. For example, it provides an overview of the materials used in new construction, specifies building components of the equipment (e.g. heating, ventilation, fittings, etc.) or the operating concept and quality measures (e.g. blower door test, air quality measurement, sound insulation measurements, etc.) as part of the project creation.

Parallel to the basic certification, the project-specific DGNB specifications were already drawn up on the basis of the basic certificate. This specifies the form, type and scope of the documentation still required for the certification of the individual construction projects that will now follow. After that, the accelerated certification process for these can begin, in which only a few details will have to be completed in individual consultation with the DGNB.
