The Lindhorst Group, a family-run group of companies with activities in the construction and real estate business areas, among other things, is now bringing dm Drogeriemarkt back to the then revitalized location with the new mixed-use concept in the heart of the city of Meppen after Woolworth. This expands the range of drugstores in the city by another well-known chain store. The drugstore chain will once again move into its old rental unit on the ground floor with around 680 square metres of sales and ancillary space next to the future REWE store. The new dm store offers a diverse range of products from the areas of baby & toddler, health, cosmetics, care, household, photo and pet food, as well as numerous practical services.
Angelina Graudons, project manager of the Ems-Quartier, about the current rental situation: “We are very satisfied with the currently concluded leases and are also in concrete negotiations for the other remaining rental space. The retail tenants acquired already represent a good mix of sectors in the retail sector. We are happy about the return of dm to Meppen. The citizens of Meppen and the surrounding area have made it clear again and again on our social media channels that dm is very close to their hearts.”
Felix Körner, Area Manager at dm-drogerie markt, on the return to the former location: “We are pleased to be able to welcome and serve our former customers in Meppen again with a wide range of products and individual services. The Lindhorst Group’s concept for the new Ems-Quartier Meppen appealed to us very much and strengthened our decision to return to our former rental space.”
The other tenants for the Ems Quarter were already B&B HOTELS, REWE, Deichmann and the Emsland Music School before the start of the project for the conversion. In recent months, the return of Woolworth to the location and Valora with “k kiosk” as new tenants for the Ems-Quartier Meppen have also been announced. The company HBB Centermanagement GmbH & Co. KG is the contact for letting at this location.
About the revitalisation project Ems-Quartier Meppen – Focus on sustainability
The former shopping centre has already been emptied and is now being converted into a sustainable “mixed-use quarter” with a new mix of uses under the name Ems-Quartier Meppen. In the future, the approx. 23,000 square meters of space are planned to be used by tenants from the retail, gastronomy, office, fitness, B&B hotel segments as well as by the Emsland Music School and the underground car park.
The location of the Ems district is characterized by the border on the central Bahnhofstraße in the northwest of the city of Meppen as well as by its direct location on the southern branch of the Ems. This will make the property a link between the central station and the old town.
Sustainability is at the heart of the revitalisation
From the very beginning, it was a central concern for the Lindhorst Group to preserve as much of the existing building fabric as possible. This approach conserves valuable resources and avoids the use of grey energy and the additional emission of emissions. An important goal is the BREEAM certification (information here) of the property with the desired classification “Excellent”. These include the integration of a photovoltaic system on the roof and the optimisation of operating costs. Another focus is on regionality.
