LBBW Immobilien celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the Marina B office project yesterday in Mainz’s Zollhafen. In the presence of Mainz’s Lord Mayor Nino Haase as well as representatives of the client LBBW Immobilien, the executing construction company Nesseler Bau and numerous other project participants, an important milestone was celebrated with the completion of the shell construction work. Completion of the building is scheduled for the beginning of 2027.

Marina B is being built in the immediate waterfront location in Mainz’s Zollhafen, one of the most dynamic new urban districts in the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital. Once an industrial port area, a lively environment has developed here in recent years with a close interlocking of living, working and leisure.

Together with the neighbouring LBBW real estate projects Rivage and Marina A, Marina B has a significant impact on the further development of the quarter. While the other two create high-quality living space in a direct location on the Rhine, Marina B complements the ensemble with modern working environments, thus completing the balanced interplay of the different uses in Zollhafen.

“For Mainz, the Zollhafen is much more than a new district. It stands for the courage to change and for the ability to combine tradition and the future, as in this case with the Marina B office complex. Like the rest of the Zollhafen, this shows how we can grow as a city without losing our roots. And that’s exactly why the Zollhafen is not just a place on the Rhine today – it is a real figurehead for modern Mainz,” says the Lord Mayor of the City of Mainz, Nino Haase.

“As LBBW Immobilien, we have been following the development of Mainz’s Zollhafen with great conviction for many years and have the privilege of actively and successfully shaping this special place with a total of five projects,” adds Marco Knopp, CEO of LBBW Immobilien. “Marina B plays a central role in this: it stands for modern working directly on the water, openly designed and consistently planned in a sustainable and future-proof manner.”

A large part of the space has already been leased on a long-term basis: The internationally active auditing and consulting firm KPMG will move into around 90 percent of the office space after completion. “Smaller locations are a conscious strategic decision for us – they promote proximity, flexibility and a strong sense of togetherness. With a modern, inspiring working environment, we create space for growth, collaboration and transformation. Thanks to energy-efficient construction and sustainable concepts, we are creating a responsible and forward-looking working environment – for our team and for the environment,” adds Ralf J. Baukloh, Regional Board Member Central at KPMG.

Particular attention is paid to sustainable construction: Marina B is aiming for DGNB certification in gold. The use of geothermal energy and photovoltaics helps to reduce energy consumption and ensure efficient building operation in the long term.

“A house is not only made of stones and beams, but also of diligence and team spirit. We have not only built here in record time, but have also successfully brought all those involved together. The environment around the port reminds us that large projects often succeed smoothly when the necessary calm and clear course are given,” concludes Karl Arnolds, Chairman of the Management Board of Nesseler Bau GmbH.

Marina B and the Rivage and Marina A projects are among a total of five construction projects of LBBW Immobilien in Mainz’s Zollhafen. The Dock1Mainz project, which was completed in 2018, and the Rheinkontor office building, which was completed in 2020, have already been implemented.
