Today I would like to electrify you a little: It is about tenant electricity!

What is it, who benefits from it? Tenant electricity is electricity generated in the immediate vicinity of the building, in particular from photovoltaic systems, which is sold directly to the tenants by the operator of these systems.

How does the implementation work in practice, what different models and possibilities arise for building owners?

And red-hot: Are regulatory clouds shadowing the PV systems erected on the buildings…? What effects will the decision of 13 May 2025 (case no. EnVR 83/20) of the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) on the operation and planning of energy infrastructures in Germany and thus tenant electricity? Will the so-called customer system privilege be overturned and can grid operators now rejoice?

These are sometimes complex questions. To whom I spoke with the experts from Quartierkraft , namely Henrik Westermann and Frederic Gros. For those interested in this column, they classified the topics in an understanding and concise way.
