An important milestone for the Am Papierbach district: Together with Landsberg’s mayor Doris Baumgartl, BayernHeim and ehret+klein celebrated the topping-out ceremony for construction sites C and Lechwinkel.
The topping-out ceremony marks the completion of the shell construction work for a total of 167 apartments, which will provide noticeable relief for the housing market in Landsberg am Lech. After the 51 affordable apartments already completed in 2024, the Free State is creating a further 103 subsidised housing units here.
Bavaria’s Minister of Construction, Christian Bernreiter, was unable to attend the topping-out ceremony due to scheduling reasons. He was represented on site by Ministerial Director Thomas Gloßner, but sent greetings and praise: “BayernHeim alone is building eight apartment buildings with more than 100 subsidized apartments on construction site C. The total investment will be supported with more than 30 million euros from housing subsidies, supplemented by equity of 21 million euros. This is a strong financial foundation for a future-oriented project. I would like to thank all those involved for their commitment to more affordable housing in Landsberg.”
“Here Am Papierbach it becomes visible what it means for us to leverage urban potential, because a brownfield site is becoming a sustainable district. I am particularly proud of the fact that we are creating affordable housing for Landsberg am Lech with our partner BayernHeim and thus also ensuring a good social mix in the district. Because diversity also means a lively togetherness,” says Michael Ehret, founder of ehret+klein. “My thanks go to the construction company Züblin for the quick completion of the shell.”
“With today’s topping-out ceremony, we are not only celebrating an architectural milestone, but also a strong signal for affordable housing in Bavaria. Here in Landsberg, 167 modern apartments are being built – from compact 1-room apartments to spacious 5-room apartments. The project shows how social responsibility and high-quality construction go hand in hand,” explains Ralph Büchele, Managing Director of BayernHeim. “Our goal is clear: to create living space that is accessible to everyone – and to do so right in the heart of a lively city.”
“As the city of Landsberg, it is particularly important to us that more than 100 subsidized apartments are being built here on the Papierbach. These apartments in the immediate vicinity of the Lech, the train station and the city centre are a building block in the series of measures with which we are creating and supporting targeted housing for people with middle incomes, for families and for socially disadvantaged people,” says Landsberg’s Lord Mayor Doris Baumgartl. “Housing is a component of public services and we as the city of Landsberg want housing here to remain affordable. For me as mayor, the creation of subsidized housing is a central issue.”
Where once a fallow plough factory stood on contaminated soil, one of the most modern quarters in all of Bavaria is now growing. The quarter on the Papierbach is completely car-free and barrier-free in large parts. Thanks to a comprehensive digital mobility concept from “Quartiershub”, residents benefit from central parking spaces, car sharing, and e-bike and cargo bike sharing. In Lechwinkel, a catering area is also being built directly on the new Lechsteg, which will expand the already diverse commercial offer in the quarter and become an attraction and important meeting place for the neighbourhood. The residents also benefit from professional neighbourhood management that brings art, culture and events to the neighbourhood.
Both construction sites follow special sustainability standards and will be built in accordance with KfW Efficiency House Standard 55. Retention roofs improve the urban climate, and around 75 percent of the energy supply comes from renewable sources – including a groundwater heat pump and biomethane combined heat and power plants.
