AtechX, Aroundtown’s scale-up programme, is expanding its international partner network to include JM, a Scandinavian housing developer. As part of the partnership, JM will gain early access to innovative technologies and business models from AtechX’s international start-up ecosystem, whilst start-ups supported by AtechX will be able to gain industry expertise and test and further develop their solutions within JM’s portfolio.

This may lead to joint pilot projects and collaborations, as well as, in the longer term, investments in selected companies. At the same time, the participating start-ups will benefit from JM’s industry knowledge and practical experience. In particular, the aim is to work together to identify and further develop solutions that increase efficiency, shorten lead times and reduce the use of resources in housing development and construction.

JM brings extensive expertise in residential development and construction to the AtechX network. The focus is, amongst other things, on innovative materials with a lower environmental impact and recyclability, new energy systems, and technologies for automating design and construction processes. The aim is to identify solutions at an early stage that not only create tangible added value for day-to-day operations but can also contribute to more efficient and resource-efficient construction processes.

“With JM, we are gaining a partner that combines in-depth operational experience in residential property development with a clear interest in new technologies. It is precisely this exchange between established market players and innovative start-ups that is a key component of AtechX. Together, we can further develop solutions at an early stage under real-world conditions and accelerate their path to practical application,” says Angie Mahtaney, Principal of the AtechX team.

“Innovation is key to a more efficient and resource-efficient construction industry. Through our partnership with AtechX, we gain early access to promising start-ups and innovative technologies. For us, this collaboration opens up the opportunity to drive innovation in a targeted manner whilst developing approaches that create long-term added value,” says Johan Wiksell, Head of Ventures at JM.

AtechX takes a consistently practice-oriented approach, connecting start-ups and scale-ups with leading companies in the property sector and real estate portfolios. In a four-month, bespoke programme, young companies develop and test their innovations directly in real-world environments – ranging from residential complexes and hotels to office buildings, property operations and property management. Experienced experts from various sectors of the property industry support the start-ups in tailoring their solutions to specific market requirements and developing scalable business models.

The AtechX start-ups gain access to Aroundtown’s extensive European portfolio, as well as to the portfolios of the AtechX partner network, including Apleona, LEG Immobilien, Prologis, Round Hill Capital, Schwarz Digits, Stoneweg, Supernova Group and Vonovia. In addition, they gain access to venture capital funds from Fifth Wall, noa, Realyze Ventures, The Bau Ventures and Zacua Ventures. With JM, the network is being expanded in particular to include additional expertise in residential property development and construction.
