Cureus, a portfolio holder specializing in inpatient care properties, which is building new for its own portfolio and actively manages it, has completed the Merseburg retirement home at Preußerstraße 16 in 06217 Merseburg (Saxony-Anhalt) and handed it over to the operating partner compassio. The first residents will be welcomed at the new location in March 2026. Schneider System Bau from Radeburg acted as general contractor for this project.
"We are very pleased to now also be able to provide the residents of Merseburg and the surrounding area with important and urgently needed care capacities according to the latest standards and in attractive architecture," says Lilli Braunagel, project manager of Cureus: "Many thanks go to all those involved in the construction, because with the new retirement home, the city center has now experienced a valuable expansion by an important building block of the social infrastructure. For the new residents of the residence, a place of well-being was created that fits perfectly into its surroundings. With compassio, we have gained an experienced and renowned operator for Merseburg, who stands for individual care and support. We wish the future residents and the compassio team all the best in this new retirement home!"
Johannes Knake, Managing Director of compassio, is enthusiastic. He adds: "Merseburg is now our third location in Saxony-Anhalt after Magdeburg and Dessau, with a fourth to follow in Halberstadt in 2027. We offer places for high-quality care that are in high demand everywhere and have already been able to win a very well-functioning starter team of committed and qualified employees for Merseburg. In the coming months, we will continue to grow and gradually and carefully increase occupancy. Registrations of residents and employee applications are therefore still possible. With regard to our motivated team, appreciation and a modern working environment are particularly important to us. This is the only way we can successfully implement our high standards of care and nursing for the residents. Our wide range of services will include long-term and short-term care."
It is still possible to reserve nursing places. Interested parties can find out more and register by phone 03461 2884-0 or by e-mail: MER-EL@compassio.de. Interested employees can also continue to apply. A total of around 100 new and crisis-proof full-time and part-time jobs have been created. We are mainly looking for nurses and assistants and there are vacancies in care and service areas.
"compassio is an attractive and reliable employer and operates in a crisis-proof, growing industry," comments Knake. In addition to open-ended employment contracts, highly attractive remuneration and numerous further education and training opportunities, we offer our employees a wide range of additional benefits, such as shopping opportunities at top conditions via our employee portal, JobRad leasing, a subsidy for the company pension scheme and a childcare allowance. In addition, we are creating optimal working conditions in Merseburg: The modern new buildings offer an attractive working environment for well-being, and state-of-the-art aids and equipment also facilitate work processes.
The barrier-free compassio senior citizens' residence Merseburg was built on a plot of land measuring around 3,800 square metres directly in the city centre and comprises around 7,400 square metres of gross floor area. The building was built as an energy-optimised KfW Efficiency House 40, which is also aiming for DGNB Silver certification. Heating is provided by the municipal district heating network.
The residence was built in a U-shape and is accessible from Preußerstraße via the main entrance. The building opens up to Brühl Street and encloses a green courtyard. The building, which has a partial basement, extends over four full floors. There are 137 modern care places available for residents in generously designed single rooms with private bathrooms, and a third of the rooms are wheelchair accessible. In addition to the nurse call, all rooms have their own telephone, internet and television connection. It is possible to furnish the rooms yourself to preserve privacy and as a private retreat. For a familiar, social togetherness, the rooms are divided into seven independently organized residential groups with associated kitchen-cum-living room and lounge area as well as balcony or terrace.
On the ground floor of the retirement home there is a residents' restaurant with kitchen and sun terrace. A hotel-like reception with an inviting foyer, a hairdresser with pedicure, a modern care bathroom and therapy rooms round off the range of services. The friendly, spacious outdoor facilities in the inner courtyard invite residents to outdoor activities and encounters. There are plenty of seating options available to linger in nature.
The senior citizens' residence is located directly in Merseburg's city centre, not far from the Saale, the Gotthard ponds and the Merseburg Rose Garden. From here, local supply, social and cultural institutions as well as doctors are easily accessible. The connection to public transport is also ensured by bus and train. Furthermore, 14 car parking spaces on the site, one of which is handicapped accessible, two with charging points for electric cars, as well as bicycle parking facilities ensure optimal accessibility for residents, visitors and employees.
The compassio senior citizens' residence in Merseburg was built in accordance with the Cureus standard of the system care property. This relies on uniform, high quality standards and is oriented, among other things, to the needs of the operators with a focus on residents and nursing staff. For example, the construction processes and all objects are optimized from the inside out: This concerns, for example, the size and arrangement of rooms to optimize areas and walkways. The on-site equipment is also well thought-out from a utility point of view: corridors always receive daylight, each room has floor-to-ceiling windows and the modern bathrooms and window arrangements always follow the same standardised system approach. In the architecture and façade design, however, great importance is attached to individuality and the highest quality in order to fit optimally into the respective project environment. Sustainable aspects also play an important role both in terms of the long-term profitability of a nursing home and its impact on the environment. For example, the KfW 40 standard is aimed for all properties. The bundled procurement, including floor coverings or elevator systems, also ensures cost synergies. Long-term maintenance contracts covering several properties also reduce operating costs. By constantly reviewing and optimizing this system approach, the creation of needs-based properties can be guaranteed.
