Swedish fashion concept Lager 157 rents around 3,000 m² on former Galeria space

Another letting success for Union Investment and ECE in the Limbecker Platz shopping center in Essen: The former Galeria space is getting a new anchor tenant in the form of the Scandinavian fashion concept Lager 157. The Swedish label sells fashion basics for women, men and children and expanded to Germany for the first time in 2024. In Limbecker Platz, the concept will occupy an area of around 3,000 m² in the basement. The opening is expected to take place at the beginning of 2026. Until then, the façade façade will be enlarged by more than ten metres for the new settlement and several existing shop areas will be combined.

“We are delighted to have won the third new tenant for the high-quality space just eleven months after Galeria Karstadt moved out due to insolvency,” says Norman Naehrig of Union Investment, which holds the centre in its open-ended real estate fund UniImmo: Europa. “With Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf and Intersport, two other well-known concepts have already been determined. Negotiations are well advanced for the remaining space and we are confident that we will be able to announce further leases on the former Galeria site by the end of the year.”

Steffen Friedlein, Managing Director Leasing Projects at ECE Marketplaces, who is responsible for the operation and leasing of the center: “The lease to the Scandinavian fashion label Lager 157 is another building block on the way to the successful transformation of the former department store space in Limbecker Platz – and a good example of how we can support the centers through adapted usage concepts and new, expanding retailers flexibly and successfully for the future.”

Limbecker Platz is also dynamic away from large-scale letting: several new concepts have opened in the center in recent months. After successful months, MINISO increased its area by an additional 170 square meters. In the gastronomy sector, Belchicken, Frankie’s Churros, Phien Coffee and Lord of Döner were added.

Further new openings are already announced for autumn 2025: The frozen yogurt concept Berry Cool, the shawarma concept Fill Full, the sushi supplier Nuki and the jewellery label Isnor are in the starting blocks. In addition, XIAOMI will open its first shop in a German shopping center – on around 100 square meters of sales space.
