GKK Ingenieurgesellschaft für Hochbau has been commissioned by MEAG, Munich Re's
asset manager, with the GÜ controlling and quality assurance of
the Hamburger Hof in Hamburg's city centre. In March, construction activities began for the
redevelopment of the traditional building. After the
gutting and pollutant remediation at the beginning, the above-ground
demolition measures followed in August, before work on the excavation pit
began in November. The project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2029.
As part of the construction supervision, GKK takes over quality assurance, controlling
of the general contractors and the monitoring of the contractual
framework conditions. In addition, the company supports the awarding of
building construction services and checks construction-related payments.
"At Hamburger Hof, our focus is on
preserving the history of the building and at the same time making it fit for the future. We protect the character of the
historic building fabric and supplement it in a targeted manner with sustainable solutions that
strengthen energy efficiency and durability," says Christoph Röthemeyer, authorized signatory,
Hamburg branch management at GKK. "The location between Jungfernstieg, Große
Bleichen and Poststraße also requires the highest precision in planning and
coordination."
The planned new building with seven upper floors and two basement floors offers around 21,000
square metres of rental space for a variety of mixed uses. Around 3,000
square metres of retail on the ground floor, around 14,000 square metres of office space, a
1,500 square metre conference centre, 28 apartments with a total of 1,700
square metres and 800 square metres for medical services are planned. A central
component of the project is the preservation and integration of the listed red
sandstone façade into the new building concept.
