BEOS, part of Swiss Life Asset Managers, has leased around 5,700 square metres of around 5,700 square metres to the international technology company Planet Labs on a long-term basis at the BERLIN DECKS innovation campus in Berlin-Mitte. In the future, the space will be used for the production of satellites as well as for research and development activities and will be supplemented by office space. Occupancy is scheduled for this year.
Berlin has been the European headquarters of Planet Labs for more than ten years. With the new location in the BERLIN DECKS, the company is expanding its European headquarters with its first production facility in Europe.
Other tenants of BERLIN DECKS include the Mercedes-Benz subsidiary MBition, which uses space in buildings 1 and 2 for software development as well as test and development environments.
"Planet Labs exemplifies the kind of companies for which the BERLIN DECKS were developed: technology-oriented users who combine research, development and modern production at one location. The fact that Planet Labs has chosen BERLIN DECKS underlines the attractiveness of the campus for international innovation companies," says Matthias Schmidt, Head Project Development at Swiss Life Asset Managers in Germany and member of the Board of BEOS.
"The expansion of our European headquarters to include our new European Space Hub in the BERLIN DECKS marks an important milestone in Planet's European growth strategy," says Martin Polak, Managing Director of Planet Labs Germany. "Our European Space Hub brings together satellite manufacturing, engineering, mission operations and business operations in one location. In this way, we are creating the conditions to translate innovations into operational capabilities more quickly and to strengthen Europe's long-term technological and industrial capacity to act in space."
Knight Frank, Realogis and Newmark were involved in the lease in an advisory capacity.
