Lauterecken: RATISBONA Handelsimmobilien opens modern Penny store in Lauterecken

With the opening of a new Penny store at the end of January 2026, RATISBONA Handelsimmobilien is providing a modern and sustainable local supply in Lauterecken. The discounter at Lautertalstraße 60 replaces the former store, which no longer met today’s comfort, energy and sustainability standards. On a site area of around 5,050 m², the Regensburg-based project developer has now realised a location that offers customers significantly improved framework conditions and combines environmentally effective quality features as an ECO market. A total of 60 parking spaces are available to visitors for their shopping, including four e-charging points.

DGNB-certified architecture: timber construction, timber façade and sustainable insulation

The approximately 1,075 m² rental space of the new Penny store was realized in a modern timber construction and supplemented by an architecturally high-quality wooden façade on the outside, which makes the sustainable character of the building visible. The market is the first penny store of the project developer to be certified according to the DGNB Gold Standard. Reusable cellulose insulation in the walls, a photovoltaic system with over 100 kWp and heating via air-source heat pumps together form a coherent, future-proof energy concept that meets the KfW Efficiency House 40 standard.

Environmentally friendly design of outdoor areas creates living spaces

The outdoor facilities also visibly contribute to the ecological character of the market. A species-rich flowering area creates food and habitat for bees, while insect-friendly perennials and woody plants offer valuable habitats all year round. This is supplemented by native tree species that contribute to the climatic stabilisation of the environment.

“We are very pleased that our first store in the new year is a DGNB-certified building. This step is an important sign for us, because the certification confirms that our claim to sustainability does not end with individual measures, but encompasses the entire construction and energy concept. Likewise, we didn’t just want to build something new in Lauterecken, but create a place that really brings something to people in everyday life, visibly contributes to the townscape and strengthens the future of their community,” says Dr. Norbert Höffer, project developer at RATISBONA Handelsimmobilien.
