IREMIS has acquired the Novotel Freiburg am Konzerthaus from Deka Immobilien on behalf of its IREMIS Hotel Real Estate Fund I. The hotel will be extensively renovated and reopened in autumn 2027 as Scandic Hotel as part of a new long-term lease.
The hotel with 219 rooms has a restaurant and bar, its own conference facilities and a wellness and spa area. It is characterized by an excellent location at the entrance to the lively pedestrian zone and the historic old town of Freiburg as well as by the city's directly adjacent concert hall.
Freiburg fits perfectly with the fund's investment strategy and combines a renowned university location, a thriving innovation ecosystem with a focus on future technologies, a diversified regional economy, strong demand in the leisure sector and limited opportunities for new hotel developments.
Following the successful acquisition and repositioning of the "Barceló Dresden Newa", Freiburg represents the second investment of IREMIS Hotel Real Estate Fund I and once again underlines the fund's strategy of identifying and actively repositioning high-quality hotel properties in prime locations in dynamic cities in the Eurozone.
The hotel, which currently operates under the Novotel brand, will undergo a major refurbishment in 2027 to modernise, make it more sustainable and reposition the property before reopening under the Scandic brand. Scandic has a network of around 320 hotels across Europe, including 12 hotels already in operation or under development in Germany.
Peter Lenhardt, Head of Hotel & Leisure at IREMIS, comments:
"Freiburg fits perfectly with our investment strategy. Its position as a leading university city, the strong regional economy and the attractive leisure and tourism market ensure a wide range of demand all year round. This acquisition represents another important step in building a focused portfolio of high-quality hotel properties in dynamic European cities. Together with Scandic, we see significant potential to position the hotel as a leading address in Freiburg."
Jens Mathiesen, President and CEO of Scandic Hotels Group, says:
"This is an important step on our further growth trajectory in Germany and a clear example of how Scandic can create value together with new real estate partners. Freiburg is an attractive city with strong and stable year-round demand, and the location of the hotel provides us with very good conditions to establish Scandic in a new German location for both business and leisure travelers."
