Harden Industriebau, a general contractor in industrial, logistics and commercial construction, has completed an extraordinary construction project in Oberhausen. In May, Europe’s first professional snooker arena was handed over to the operator and opened to the public. The project developer for this construction project with a total area of 2,000 m² is Rheinische Grundbesitz AG, Mülheim. Construction work had begun in September 2025.
Harden Industriebau has developed solutions for this project that meet the special needs of a training facility. There are spacious reception rooms for participants and guests. The snooker hall itself is equipped with optimal lighting, and in the upper area there is a soundproof studio room for podcasts and moderation during live broadcasts of competitions. In order to align the building with the public traffic and the stay of the players, a large ventilation system was installed, which will heat and cool the building via a heat pump.
The snooker scene in Germany is looking forward to the new competition and training facility. Thomas Hein, national snooker coach within the German Billiard Union, explained: “Snooker is played at a high professional level, especially in the United Kingdom. With the new hall, we want to become a venue for national and international tournaments. Thanks to the high-quality equipment and spacious training areas, we will reach a new level, be internationally competitive – and thus become a lively meeting place for sports enthusiasts from all over Europe.”
In June, the Snooker Arena was the venue for the German Championship in the discipline 6-Reds for the first time with 39 participants and exciting matches on two days full of top sporting performances.
Rheinische Grundbesitz, a project developer with a focus on the commercial real estate development of logistics and industrial park facilities in North Rhine-Westphalia and based in neighboring Mülheim an der Ruhr, decided to award the contract to Harden Industriebau due to the good cooperation: “At Harden Industriebau, we are dealing with a highly professional general contractor who perfectly adheres to specified budgets and time windows and also provides answers to complicated special tasks. We look forward to further joint projects in the region.”

The location of the new snooker arena on Brammenring, opposite the Westfield Centro shopping centre, is part of a major urban development project in Oberhausen. The Neue Mitte 4.0 master plan aims to upgrade the area around Centro, Rudolf-Weber-Arena and Rhein-Herne-Kanal with entertainment, new hotels, office and residential quarters.
