The Graz-based engineering firm Lorenz Consult has started construction of a new production plant in Taufkirchen a. d. Trattnach, Upper Austria. The customer is Alginure GmbH & Co. KG, a company of the Schaumann Group (Huelsenberg Holding, Pinneberg). In the future, algae-based preparations for nutrient-optimised arable and crop cultivation will be produced at the site. As general planner, Lorenz Consult is responsible for all service phases and specialist areas. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2027.
The new building includes a production and storage hall, silos as well as an office and social building with a gross floor area of around 2,250 m² and a gross volume of around 28,100 m³. The plant for the production of liquid, algae-based preparations is being built in the hall, supplemented by the associated storage and silo areas; the office and social building bundles the administrative and staff areas of the site. The buildings are designed for future growth from the outset.
“We are not only planning for today’s needs, but for the development of the coming years. Therefore, a later expansion was part of the concept from the first planning phase. This allows the site to grow with the requirements of production,” says Martin Priehse, head of Lorenz Consult’s Munich office and responsible project manager.
Challenging subsoil requires an integral water concept
The biggest challenge for the construction project is the subsoil: it has a low load-bearing capacity, a high groundwater level and poor infiltration capacity, and the site is also located in a flood zone. Together with a specialist planner for geology and hydrology as well as the responsible authorities of the province of Upper Austria, Lorenz Consult developed a concept for surface drainage, flood protection and the protection of groundwater from contamination.
The subsoil improvement will also be carried out on the later expansion areas, which will reduce subsequent interventions, construction time and costs.
Technical equipment focuses on efficiency
The technical equipment is designed for efficient operation, and the devices for the subsequent installation of a photovoltaic system are fully provided.
In intralogistics, the project relies on electric drive technology: electric forklifts and electrically powered shuttle systems for storage and storage reduce emissions, and the necessary charging infrastructure is integrated into the overall concept. Another feature is the multi-storey, semi-automated machine installation on a steel platform construction, which enables compact use of space and short material flows.
Integrated design in a well-rehearsed constellation
Lorenz Consult is a long-standing planning partner of the Schaumann Group and has already implemented several projects in Germany and Austria for the Group.

For the new building in Taufkirchen, Lorenz Consult is relying on a well-established network of long-standing partners. The planning is carried out using the proven BIM methodology: All components of the technical building services (TGA) are coordinated in a common 3D model. This allows planning conflicts to be detected at an early stage and rework to be avoided in later project phases.
Start of construction three weeks earlier than planned
Due to a separate award of earthworks and master builder work as well as rapid planning, the start of construction could be brought forward by three weeks. This gives the project the necessary lead time to complete the shell before winter and then implement the interior work over the winter months.
“The early start of construction is the result of a forward-looking tendering strategy and close cooperation between all those involved in the project. In this way, we are creating the best conditions for a smooth further construction process,” concludes Martin Priehse.
