In spring-like temperatures, the ABG Real Estate Group ceremoniously handed over the space in the newly designed and revitalized building complex “Yorcks Campus” to the Volkshochschule Düsseldorf (VHS). The new location was officially opened in the presence of Lord Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller, Ulrich Höller, Managing Partner of the ABG Real Estate Group, Simone Bruns, Director of the VHS, and Miriam Koch, Councillor for Culture and Integration, as well as other guests. The ensemble is located in the Düsseldorf district of Derendorf opposite the campus of the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and is part of the city’s knowledge mile.
On around 16,000 square metres, the VHS will offer a wide range of educational opportunities in modern learning environments. A total of 58 seminar rooms with digital media technology as well as 27 specialist rooms for art and creativity, digital and media, music, sports, natural sciences and a cooking workshop have been created, each supplemented by associated preparation areas. Two roof gardens with a total area of over 1,500 square meters offer recreational and communication areas.
The building ensemble, which was built in the early 1990s as a banking and insurance location, was acquired by ABG Real Estate Group in 2020 and redesigned as a campus by the company between 2023 and 2025 and comprehensively and sustainably modernised. The measures included a complete gutting, the complete renewal of the technical building equipment including ventilation and heat pump technology, as well as the repair of the façade and sun protection. In addition, the roof surfaces were renewed and insulated, a photovoltaic system was installed and the building’s primary energy consumption was reduced by more than 50 percent. The building has been pre-certified by the DGNB in “Gold”.
In addition to the adult education centre, the location is characterised by other established tenants. These include the fitness provider FitX, the internationally active biotechnology company Bio-Techne and AOK Rheinland, which is represented here with a customer center. The ensemble is complemented by a large underground car park with around 400 parking spaces and e-charging infrastructure, which is managed by Park One. Further rental space is currently being negotiated.
