Together with representatives from politics, municipalities and business, ENERTRAG today ceremoniously put the first construction phase of the Bütow II wind field into operation. Six new Nordex N163 wind turbines are connected to the grid. They are part of a comprehensive repowering process that replaces the existing building from 1999 with modern turbines.

The inauguration in Bütow was attended by Ines Jesse, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Dr. Karl-Heinrich Niehoff, Managing Director of the existing wind farm, and Robert Vogt, Regional Manager ENERTRAG for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The event was accompanied by the mayors and community representatives of the local municipalities of Bütow and Eldetal.

Repowering with significantly more power

In the overall Bütow project, ENERTRAG is replacing 32 old turbines from 1999 with 14 modern Nordex N163 wind turbines. This will reduce the number of turbines by more than half. At the same time, the installed capacity increases by around five times, and the annual energy yield grows almost tenfold. Today’s commissioning marks the completion of the first construction phase with six turbines. Two further construction phases will follow in the coming years.

Local communities and residents benefit directly

Together with the municipalities of Bütow and Eldetal, ENERTRAG has developed a participation concept that allows municipalities and residents to participate directly in the proceeds. An additional electricity bonus is available for citizens. Registration is done online at strombonus.enertrag.com. The offer is being implemented in cooperation with Stadtwerke Malchow as a regional energy partner.

Greetings from politics

Ines Jesse, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, emphasises the importance of the project for the energy transition in the state:
“The Bütow II wind field shows the potential of repowering: more renewable energy with fewer turbines, greater distances and the participation of local people. With the approval of an individual participation concept in accordance with the Citizens’ and Municipalities’ Participation Act, citizens and municipalities will participate in the advantages of the project. With the new BüGem 2.0, we have also created the basis for further strengthening local investments in the future. In this way, we combine the cleverly controlled expansion of renewable energies in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with the acceptance of the people in our state.”

Robert Vogt, Regional Manager at ENERTRAG for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, adds:
“32 old plants will become 14 modern ones, with almost ten times the energy yield. This is not an end in itself, but a clear commitment to this region. Municipalities, residents and local partners such as Stadtwerke Malchow have been involved from the very beginning. This is how acceptance is created, not through promises, but through real participation.”
