The Lindhorst Group, a family-run group of companies with activities in the business areas of agriculture, forestry and renewable energies, among others, and TESVOLT AG, a leading German supplier of battery storage systems (BESS), are jointly building a new site for a BESS with an energy volume of 21 megawatt hours and an output of 6.4 megawatts in Lutherstadt Wittenberg (Saxony-Anhalt). The building permit and grid connection have already been secured, and construction is scheduled to take place by June 2027. OptiPower Energiemanagement, a company of the Lindhorst Group, will be the owner of the plant, while TESVOLT will be responsible for the construction, operation service and energy trading.
“With this project, we are expanding our BESS strategy to include another important element in the forward-looking business field of the energy industry,” says Dr. Janis Meyerhof, Member of the Executive Board of JLW Holding AG from the Lindhorst Group, and responsible for the Renewable Energies business unit. He explains: “After our group of companies has been successfully active in the development and operation of renewable energy projects for a long time, the entry into storage technologies now represents a logical further development. Through our subsidiary VISIOLAR, for example, we are already active in the field of green electricity storage systems for ground-mounted PV systems. We are also currently focusing on the construction of BESS on our own land or at our own locations for electricity trading and supply optimisation. Finally, we also take over already approved BESS projects from third parties that are ready for construction, build them and organize the operation, as is now the case in Wittenberg. We are delighted to have TESVOLT, an established technology provider, at our side.”

ABOUT BATTERY STORAGE SYSTEMS (BESS)
BESS play an important role in making the electricity system more flexible. They make it possible to temporarily store peak loads from surplus and cost-effectively generated energy in the grids, especially from renewable sources such as wind and solar energy, and to feed them back into the grid at times of higher demand. As a result, they make a significant contribution to relieving the power grids and to better integrating volatile generation. In addition, such storage systems sometimes provide so-called relevant ancillary services.
