The MLK Group and the eegon Eifel Energy Cooperative opened the repowered Scheid wind farm in the Vulkaneifel district on 10 June. Numerous citizens, project partners and representatives from politics came together directly at the new wind turbines to celebrate the successful commissioning. The focus of the project is on active citizen participation.
More power through modern repowering
As part of the renovation at the Scheid site, four old turbines will be replaced by modern Nordex N163 turbines in the 7-megawatt class. The first two of them have now been connected to the grid. This technical upgrade increased the total output of the wind farm from 4 to 14 megawatts.
At the event directly at the facility, the focus was not only on technology, but also on exchange and information. During guided tours, personal conversations and a joint barbecue, visitors were able to find out first-hand about the project.
Kevin Schröder, who heads the MLK regional office in Hallschlag and himself comes from the region, emphasized the continuity on site: "We are not just project developers here, we want to be part of the region - and that for many years. That's why we not only plan the plants, but also operate them ourselves."
Strong partnership for regional value creation
A special feature of the Scheid wind farm is the close cooperation between the project developer and eegon: One of the newly built turbines will be operated together with the cooperative from Wiesbaum, which has joined the project company as a co-operator.
"The aim of the cooperation was to give the citizens of Scheid the opportunity to participate directly in the project," emphasized eegon board member Monika Seifen. This model makes citizen participation a central building block and ensures that the financial added value remains directly in the Eifel.
"We can already look back on a very long cooperation with MLK, which is based on mutual trust and constructive action in every phase. As a municipality, we are looking forward to further projects that will benefit our citizens," emphasized the mayor of Scheid, Gottfried Hack.
Further extensive expansion of the site planned
With the commissioning of the new turbines, the development in the Hocheifel is not complete. The MLK Group is already planning the next expansion stage: Approvals have been issued for four additional wind turbines in the 7 MW class, and five other turbines in the same performance class have already received a positive preliminary decision. The turbines have hub heights of up to 199 meters and rotor diameters of more than 170 meters.
In order to closely supervise these projects and to be available as a permanent contact for residents, municipalities and land owners, the MLK regional office in Hallschlag will continue to closely accompany the activities on site.
