On average, more than one in two buildings (58.9 percent) in the 20 largest German cities is generally suitable for at least one heat pump technology. Whether a building is suitable for this depends on the structural, spatial and geological conditions, among other things – for example, whether there is sufficient space for the installation or whether the land and soil conditions allow the respective heat pump technology. However, there are significant differences between the cities: While more than four out of five buildings in Dresden meet the technical requirements for at least one heat pump technology, this applies to only about two out of five buildings in Düsseldorf. This is shown by a recent analysis by Aroundhome (www.aroundhome.de). As an independent platform, Aroundhome connects homeowners with the right specialist companies for every house project. For the analysis, the publicly available data of the heat pump traffic light of the Research Centre for Energy Economics (FfE) were evaluated. The study examined the proportion of buildings in German cities that are technically suitable for at least one heat pump technology.
