The VSB Group is celebrating 30 years of company history. What began in 1996 as a small engineering office in Dresden has developed into a project developer and operator of wind and photovoltaic farms as well as battery storage systems operating throughout Europe with a clear growth path for the next phase of the energy transition. As part of TotalEnergies, a global energy company, VSB now operates within an international organization with a common ambition: to drive the transformation towards a sustainable energy system on an industrial scale.
With an installed capacity of around 592 megawatts, VSB generates and supplies electricity from renewable sources throughout Europe. The company is currently building projects in Germany, Poland and France with a total capacity of 447 megawatts. Since its foundation, more than 3 gigawatts of renewable energy projects have been implemented or developed to construction readiness and subsequently sold. VSB has thus positioned itself as an established and recognized player in the market. In addition, the group of companies takes over the technical and commercial management of both its own plants and third-party projects.
New chapter with international strength
Since 2025, the VSB Group has been part of the global energy company TotalEnergies. Together, the partners are working to significantly scale electricity generation from renewable energies by 2030 and thus contribute to TotalEnergies’ goal of achieving net electricity production of 120 TWh, 70 percent of which will come from renewable sources. VSB is contributing its expertise in the development of wind and photovoltaic projects in Germany and Europe. In the future, the focus will increasingly be on not only generating green electricity, but also storing it and delivering it to where it is needed – for example to industrial and commercial customers in the regions. Battery storage, hybrid wind-solar projects and direct power purchase agreements (PPAs) will therefore continue to gain in importance.
Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of the VSB Group: “The energy transition has become a key industrial policy task for Europe. It is not only about climate protection, but also about competitiveness, security of supply and technological sovereignty. After 30 years of VSB, it is clear to us that renewable energies must be thought of as an integrated system along the entire energy industry value chain. The merger with TotalEnergies will further strengthen this integrated model and accelerate the development of our projects, thus opening a new chapter for our company.”
Rooted in Dresden, grown in Europe
Despite international expansion, the roots lie in Dresden. Numerous projects have been initiated and managed from here over the past three decades. At the same time, VSB has grown continuously: a 2-man engineering office has become a company with more than 500 employees in six European countries. In Germany alone, around 60 percent of them are employed.
