Nöfer Architekten and Primus Immobilien AG further develop courtyard house typology
Berlin, 5 May 2026 – Today’s laying of the foundation stone marks a symbolic milestone for the “Céleste” condominium project at Knesebeckstraße 10 in Berlin-Charlottenburg, the realisation of which has already begun. The building, designed by Nöfer Architekten, replaces an existing building from the 1960s with a six-storey residential building with an inner courtyard.
The project is being built between Savignyplatz and Hardenbergstraße in one of the most established residential areas in Berlin. The developer Primus Immobilien AG is building a high-quality residential building with around 5,000 square metres of gross floor area in sustainable construction.
Tobias Nöfer of Nöfer Architekten describes the architectural approach: “We are developing a courtyard house that reinterprets the classic Berlin block structure. The design organises the building as a sequence of street, courtyard and garden, thus creating different spatial qualities within a compact city block.”
In terms of design, the design combines classic elements of Berlin architecture – such as horizontal structures and cornices – with a contemporary design language and modern construction methods. The aim is a clear urban integration into the grown structure of City West.
Regarding the urban classification, Nöfer adds: “The project replaces an existing building from the 1960s and contributes to the further development of City West as a densely populated residential location. It responds to the high urban density in this part of Berlin and complements the existing block structure.” The new building will create additional living space in a highly sought-after inner-city district and a further building block in the structural development of City West.
