Aroundtown increases the share of sustainably certified space within its commercial portfolio in Kassel
Aroundtown has successfully obtained BREEAM certifications at Henschelplatz in Kassel. The certified properties are located in the Nord-Holland district of Kassel and underscore Aroundtown’s commitment to sustainable development and management within its commercial real estate portfolio.
The achieved certifications document the successful implementation of BREEAM sustainability criteria at the site. Positive features at the Henschelplatz industrial park include comprehensive district heating supply, which results in no local emissions, the extensive use of energy-efficient LED lighting, and site-wide water monitoring with integrated leak detection.
Another focus of the sustainability strategy at Henschelplatz lies in ecological quality. Approximately 40 percent of the total site area is greened, and many areas are developing through natural vegetation growth. A biodiversity study confirms the high ecological value of the site. The BREEAM certification follows a holistic approach and assesses buildings across multiple categories, including energy, water, materials, location quality, and user aspects. For Aroundtown, the certification represents not only an award but also the foundation for continuous optimization of the buildings during ongoing operations and further improvement of sustainability performance at the site.
The industrial park at Henschelplatz has its own rail connection and is centrally located in northern Kassel along the federal highway B7. It is connected to Kassel’s public transport network via its own tram stop and extensive bus connections. With short distances to Kassel’s ICE train station, the A7, A44, and A49 motorways, as well as Kassel-Calden Airport, the site is optimally integrated into the region’s transportation infrastructure. The premises also include several facilities providing daily necessities (canteen, kiosks).
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is one of the leading international certification systems for the ecological and socio‑cultural aspects of building sustainability. Aroundtown pursues an energy‑efficient approach to its commercial portfolio and has already certified more than 70 percent of all office buildings in its portfolio.
