CiviSmart, the Italian smart infrastructure platform from PATRIZIA, a leading partner for global real assets, has reached the milestone of 500,000 street lights across Italy.
With this milestone, CiviSmart is one of the leading independent providers of smart public lighting in Italy. At the same time, the development underlines PATRIZIA’s long-term commitment to investing in infrastructure that makes cities more efficient, digital and sustainable.
PATRIZIA has been active in the Italian smart street lighting market since 2022. CiviSmart was created in 2025 from the merger of the three providers Ottima, Selettra and Atlantico. Since then, through organic growth and targeted acquisitions, the platform has grown into a nationwide provider supporting municipalities across Italy.
Within the past 18 months, CiviSmart, under the leadership of CEO Riccardo Amoroso, increased the number of street lights operated by CiviSmart by 32 percent – from 380,000 at the beginning of 2025 to 500,000 today. The increase is based on a balanced combination of organic growth and selective acquisitions and reflects the platform’s consistent expansion strategy.
Today, CiviSmart has a broad geographical presence in Italy: 45 percent of street lights are located in southern Italy, 20 percent in central Italy and 35 percent in northern Italy.
More than half of the managed portfolio is already equipped with systems for remote monitoring and adaptive lighting control. Around 20 percent of the light points are operated via intelligent point-to-point control systems. This enables municipalities to increase their energy efficiency, reduce operating costs and modernise their critical infrastructure for the future.
Beyond public lighting, CiviSmart has become a comprehensive smart infrastructure partner for municipalities. Building on its installed infrastructure and long-term concession contracts, the company now offers additional solutions for smart buildings, energy efficiency, environmental monitoring, video surveillance with AI-powered analytics, and projects to further electrify urban infrastructure, among others.
Smart public lighting is a central part of PATRIZIA’s infrastructure strategy, which focuses on urban sustainability, digitalisation and the energy transition. In view of the increasing need for modernization in cities, smart lighting is becoming increasingly important as a key technology for more efficient infrastructures and the reduction of emissions.
Riccardo Amoroso, CEO of CiviSmart, says: “Reaching 500,000 street lights is a significant milestone for CiviSmart and confirms the strength of our business model as well as the commitment of our team. Over the past year, we have significantly accelerated our growth through organic expansion and targeted acquisitions, while further expanding our technological capabilities and national presence. Smart public lighting is increasingly recognized as a strategic infrastructure for cities. That’s why we continue to support municipalities in modernizing their lighting networks with innovative and sustainable technologies. This can reduce costs for citizens, improve service quality and reduce environmental impact at the same time.”
Matteo Andreoletti, Head of Investment Management Infrastructure at PATRIZIA, adds: “The growth of CiviSmart shows how PATRIZIA identifies attractive infrastructure investments and builds powerful platforms through active asset management. Municipalities are increasingly looking for integrated solutions to modernize their essential infrastructure. That’s why we see significant long-term opportunities for smart infrastructure that drives digitalization, energy efficiency, and decarbonization. CiviSmart is a compelling example of how, together with our investments, we create long-term value for our investors while contributing to more sustainable and resilient cities.”
