Greystar, a global company for investment, development and management of rental apartments, has appointed Michael Stapf as Managing Director Development Germany & Austria. The real estate developer has more than 25 years of industry experience and will be responsible for the development pipeline in both countries. His responsibilities include the implementation of ongoing projects, the development of new projects and the expansion of the network with local partners.
Stapf joins Greystar at an important time of growth. Working closely with the investment and operations teams, he will drive new development projects in Germany and Austria and ensure that operations and leasing are incorporated into the planning from the outset.
Mark Kuijpers, Senior Managing Director Central Europe, says: “Germany urgently needs new rental apartments and remains a market for us in which we want to invest in the long term. Together with local partners, we have already launched numerous projects. Now that we have successfully completed the fundraising for our latest pan-European residential real estate fund, we can invest further capital and build on it. Michael Stapf has many years of experience in project development and knows the German market very well. With his expertise, he will support us in identifying new projects and further expanding our business in Germany.”
Stapf brings more than 25 years of experience in the real estate industry. He is moving from LBBW Immobilien Development GmbH to Greystar, where he was jointly responsible for the further development of the project portfolio as Managing Director. Previously, he was Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director of International Campus, where he led investment and development activities in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and the Czech Republic. During this time, numerous acquisitions with an investment volume of several thousand apartments were implemented. Prior to that, Stapf worked for Groß & Partner for 18 years, most recently as a member of the management board.
Michael Stapf, Managing Director Development Germany & Austria at Greystar, explains: “Germany and Austria need more new housing. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly challenging to plan projects in such a way that they are economically viable and can be successfully implemented. What particularly convinced me about Greystar is that we invest in the long term, develop ourselves and operate our buildings professionally. This allows us to successfully implement even challenging projects. Together with our team and our local partners, I would like to consistently advance the ongoing projects and at the same time identify new locations where we can create further urgently needed rental housing.”
Greystar is currently growing in Germany mainly, but not exclusively, in Berlin. Together with local partners, the company is developing several large residential projects there. With PRIMUS, Greystar is currently planning four projects with a total of around 1,400 apartments in Pankow, Charlottenburg, Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer Berg. In Berlin-Marzahn, Greystar is developing 428 apartments together with Ten Brinke. With Momento Berlin in Neukölln, the company has also completed one of its largest German residential projects to date. With 14 houses, the quarter offers different apartment types, professional service and common areas for residents.
