In Schleswig-Holstein, Energiequelle GmbH has successfully connected three wind turbines to the grid. The Vestas V150 turbines have a hub height of 148 meters and a total output of 18 MW. In the future, they will generate around 47,000 MWh of renewably produced electricity annually. This corresponds to the average demand of around 9,100 households.
The turbines were erected on an area designated for the use of wind energy in the regional plan. This meant that the planning requirements for the implementation of the project were met.
After approval in December 2023, the project was awarded the feed-in tariff by the Federal Network Agency in July 2024. Practical implementation began with the start of construction in October 2024. Commissioning took place from 7 September 2026.
"With the commissioning of the three plants, we have reached an important milestone. I am pleased that the energy generated will contribute to a reliable and sustainable power supply in the future," says Team Leader Project Management Eva Sommer. "Special thanks also go to the municipalities of Föhrden-Barl and Weddelbrook for the good and trusting cooperation during the project."
The construction process was at times influenced by difficult weather conditions. In particular, the high groundwater levels during the winter months made work on the cable route more difficult. The delays ultimately led to a later commissioning of the wind farm.
Protection of large birds and birds of prey as well as an attractive citizens' savings offer
Mowing management is used to protect large birds and birds of prey. During the time of harvest events, the wind turbines are temporarily switched off if necessary. In addition, deflection areas were created to keep the animals away from the immediate vicinity of the turbines.
In addition, Energiequelle has implemented a citizen participation offer. Residents were able to participate with a minimum investment amount of 3,000 euros and receive a fixed interest rate of five percent over a term of four years. This means that the local population benefits financially from the wind farm and regional value creation is ensured.
In this way, the wind farm not only supports the expansion of renewable energies in the region, but also strengthens acceptance.
