The demolition excavator is rolling: Shortly before the official starting signal for the construction project “Holzmarktstraße 51” in the district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, the demolition work on the old Holzmarkstraße swimming pool began on July 13, 2026. The above-ground dismantling of the old swimming pool will be completed in mid-August, and the underground dismantling of the old swimming pool will take place by mid-September 2026.
By 2030, a modern ensemble of buildings will be built here that combines swimming, living, working and commercial. The heart of the new construction project is the revitalization of the Holzmarktstraße indoor swimming pool with an expanded offer for Berliners. With other diverse uses, the “Holzmarkt 51” project complements the liveable character of the neighbourhood. Around 375 apartments for students, around 4,600 m² of office space with a flexible floor plan design and around 1,500 m² of retail space in the ground floor zone will be built. Freely accessible green spaces on the roof and attractively designed inner courtyards complete the usage concept.
The project is part of a state-owned cooperation project between berlinovo and Berliner Bäder-Betriebe.
