“The election campaign focuses less on the issue of housing and more on cheap rents and socialization. This means increasing housing construction and improving housing conditions for Berliners is not the focus of political discussion at the moment. Rather, it is about the pros and cons of more regulation.
“The parties have obviously learned that you can’t score points with Berlin voters with successes in housing construction. This gives rise to fears of the worst for housing construction and the so-called rent policy.
“Unfortunately, the election campaign is currently more oriented towards political opponents than political successes. After all, the current Senate has not only drafted the Faster Building Act and the Act for Simple Building, but has also passed it through the committees in a short time. In addition, there is a whole series of remarkable construction projects that are now being planned or already being implemented. Instead of reporting on these successes, it is about rent police and socialization.”
