JA, a global leader in photovoltaic products and integrated energy solutions, is expanding its European range of commercial and industrial (C&I) battery storage systems (BESS) with the launch of JAPlanet Fusion and JAPlanet 2.0.
JAPlanet Fusion is a DC-coupled hybrid solution for PV and battery storage that combines inverters, battery storage and backup functionality in one system. In parallel, JAPlanet 2.0 is the latest generation of JA’s established AC-coupled C&I battery storage system, adding higher efficiency, optimized thermal management, and improved operation and maintenance (O&M) capabilities to the JAPlanet platform.
Both systems are designed to provide C&I customers and project partners with greater flexibility in the design of storage systems for different site, grid and operational requirements.
JAPlanet Fusion: PV, storage and backup in one system
JAPlanet Fusion integrates inverters, battery storage, and backup functionality into one coordinated system, simplifying system planning, installation, and commissioning. Component integration reduces system interfaces, cabling overhead, and reduces space requirements. It can also reduce the risk of compatibility issues between separately procured components.
The system has a battery cabinet with a capacity of 261 kWh and a nominal power of 125 kW. Thanks to the modular architecture, up to 10 units can be operated in parallel in grid-connected operation and up to six units in island operation, allowing the system capacity to be flexibly adapted to project requirements.
JAPlanet Fusion is particularly suitable for solar repowering projects. The system can accommodate a PV input power of up to 250 kWp, enabling the installation of additional PV power on the DC side with up to 20 strings and 10 MPP trackers, while keeping the AC output power within the grid power limit allowed at the site. For plant operators, this opens up the opportunity to make better use of existing solar systems and grid connections, integrate energy storage and increase operational resilience. At the same time, coordination with distribution system operators is simplified by reducing complexity and time required for projects that would otherwise require an increase in grid connection capacity.
For backup applications, an integrated static transfer switch (STS) detects a power failure and switches the system to island mode within 10 milliseconds to maintain the supply of critical loads.
The system also includes liquid cooling, continuous monitoring of temperature, smoke and gases, integrated aerosol fire suppression, and redundant dual-channel ventilation in accordance with NFPA 69.
“Across Europe, there is a growing potential to upgrade aging solar installations with more powerful technology. However, grid constraints can make increasing generation capacity complex and time-consuming. At the same time, companies want more control over their energy consumption and greater resilience to grid disruptions,” says Ignacio Espinosa Gil, Head of the European Technical Team at JA.
“JAPlanet Fusion was developed with this next generation of C&I projects in mind. By integrating PV, storage and fast backup functionality into a single system, we can offer our partners a more efficient approach to system planning and implementation, while enabling better utilization of PV generation and greater resilience based on existing site infrastructure.”
JAPlanet 2.0: AC-coupled BESS of the latest generation
In addition to JAPlanet Fusion, JAPlanet 2.0 brings the latest generation of JA’s AC-coupled C&I battery storage technology to Europe.
The 261 kWh system achieves a maximum round-trip efficiency of over 90% and can operate at ambient temperatures of up to 50 °C without reducing power. Intelligent thermal management reduces auxiliary energy consumption by 20% compared to conventional systems, improving system efficiency while supporting operation in different environmental conditions.
High product safety is ensured by cell-level monitoring as well as UL-9540A testing of the entire battery system. JAPlanet 2.0 is equipped with JANebula, a new integrated energy management system (EMS) for applications such as time-of-use optimization, peak shaving or a higher PV self-consumption rate. The system complies with EU regulations on product safety.
JAPlanet Fusion and JAPlanet 2.0 will be available for pre-order in Europe from the second half of September 2026. The first deliveries of JAPlanet Fusion are scheduled for the end of the fourth quarter of 2026.
Both systems will also be presented as part of the JA customer roadshow Journey Ahead 2026, which runs until the end of October 2026. Further information at www.journeyahead.eu.
