With the signing of the cornerstone agreement for the “Metro Campus” development plan procedure, the City of Düsseldorf and Swiss Life Asset Managers are setting an important milestone for the further development of the D.STRICT urban district.

At this year’s polis Convention on 6 May in Düsseldorf, the Lord Mayor of the state capital, Dr. Stephan Keller, and Swiss Life Asset Managers signed the key points agreement on the “Metro Campus” development plan procedure for the new D.STRICT district, which is being developed by Swiss Life Asset Managers in Düsseldorf-Flingern.

“With D.STRICT, we are designing an urban district that combines urgently needed living space with a modern mix of uses, while consistently thinking about sustainability and future viability,” says Holger Matheis, CEO of Swiss Life Asset Managers in Germany. “The key points agreement is a decisive next step in the good cooperation with the city of Düsseldorf to realize this ambitious project,” Matheis continued.

The agreement includes the signing of key points for the procedure, regulations on neighbourhood management and the quality of development, among other things. It forms the basis for the continuation of the procedure with the aim of a possible completion and start of construction by 2027.

“The key points agreement gives the development plan procedure a clear basis and makes the next steps of this important project reliably plannable for all of us. With Swiss Life Asset Managers, we are working with an experienced partner,” says Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller.

Cornelia Zuschke, Councillor for Planning, Building, Housing and Real Estate, adds: “An urban district needs a robust urban framework and high-quality architecture that is true to scale. Our goal is for the future residents to feel comfortable right from the start. Active neighbourhood management will make an important contribution to this by bringing people together, strengthening neighbourhoods and accompanying the development of a future-oriented, lively neighbourhood.”

On the approximately 73,200 square metre site in Düsseldorf-Flingern, Swiss Life Asset Managers is developing an urban and versatile urban quarter in an integrated location in Düsseldorf-Flingern under the name D.STRICT.

A quarter with a core of around 1500 apartments is planned, privately financed and socially subsidized, supplemented by other uses such as gastronomy, retail and local recreation facilities. Public open spaces and social infrastructure such as daycare centers are also part of the planning.

In addition to the lively mix, the future viability of the new quarter is an important part of the planning at all levels. Environmental and climate protection as well as social criteria are just as elementary as a car-free urban space that particularly meets the needs of urban life. Topics such as mobility, sharing, digitalisation and resource-saving energy concepts characterise sustainability certifications in the gold standard at least.
