With the commissioning of the second wind turbine, VSB Deutschland has completed the expansion of the Vockenrod wind farm on schedule. A total of five plants now generate climate-friendly electricity at the site and make a further contribution to the expansion of renewable energy in Hesse.
The expansion includes two Nordex N149-5 wind turbines. X with a total installed capacity of 11.4 megawatts (MW). The first construction phase of the wind farm with three identical turbines and a total output of 17.1 MW had already gone into full operation in spring 2024. With the completion of the second construction phase, the Vockenrod wind farm now has a total of five wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 28.5 MW.
After completion of the construction preparations and foundation work in 2024, the two towers were assembled and the technical components installed the following year. A special milestone was the transport of the rotor blades: With the help of a self-propelled wind blade transporter, the so-called “Bladelifter”, they were safely brought from the transshipment point at the Alsfeld-Ost motorway exit to the wind farm at night. After completion of the electrical engineering work and the grid connection, both wind turbines went into operation as planned in the first half of 2026.
After completion of the expansion, the Vockenrod wind farm will achieve a projected net annual energy yield of around 63.1 million kWh per year. This corresponds to the annual electricity demand of around 19,700 households. At the same time, climate-friendly power generation avoids around 47,300 tons of CO₂ annually – an important contribution to a sustainable energy supply.
