After a construction period of around one and a half years, ENOVA has successfully completed the repowering of the Gehrde wind farm. With the commissioning of the new plants, the site in the district of Osnabrück is now going into regular operation.
ENOVA has commissioned three Enercon E-138 EP3 E2 turbines in Gehrde. The turbines, which have a rotor diameter of 138 meters and a total height of 230 meters, replace four Enercon E-66 turbines from 2002. With a total capacity of 12.6 MW and a predicted annual energy yield of 33,000 MWh, the wind farm will supply around 12,000 two-person households with green electricity in the future.
“With the repowering in Gehrde, we are showing the potential of existing wind farm sites. Modern plant technology can significantly increase electricity generation without taking up additional land. This is precisely what we see as a decisive lever for the further expansion of wind energy,” says Hendrik Böschen, Chief Operations Officer (COO) at ENOVA.
ENOVA acquired the Gehrde wind farm in April 2024. The permit under the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) had already been granted in February 2024 – while the acquisition process was still ongoing. After the takeover, the company quickly implemented the project and, in close cooperation with Enercon, secured the last available E-138 EP3 E2 turbines at an early stage. In the further course of the project, discussions with local stakeholders were also successfully concluded. The construction phase then began in mid-February 2025 with the dismantling of the four existing facilities. With the commissioning now completed, the repowering project has been successfully completed.
