Following the opening of the Holiday Inn – the niu Pax last year in Building A of the Mizar Gate Office (MGO) built by the DIEAG Group (DIEAG) at Mizarstraße 7–9, on the corner of Hans-Grade-Allee in Neu-Schönefeld, NOVUM Hospitality and IHG Hotels & Resorts are opening the Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport in Building C.
NOVUM Hospitality and IHG-Hotels & Resorts are renting a total of approximately 12,405 square metres in the two individual buildings Building A and House C of the building ensemble, which comprises a total of three buildings with around 19,200 square metres of rental space (MF-GIF). The building ensemble, originally designed as an office property, was built according to plans by Blumers Architekten (Berlin) and in cooperation with Ed. Züblin AG as general contractor. Building B, which is still used as an office, is fully let to various well-known users, including Molex, e.distherm, Carrier, Züblin and others. The conversion of houses A and C of the building ensemble for the hotel and apartment operations was carried out according to plans by Ganter Architekten, Bernau near Berlin, and DIEfabrik GmbH, Oldenburg.
Tenants of the entire complex have 240 parking spaces at their disposal, 89 of which are in the underground car park and 151 above ground. Thanks to the city motorway and a well-developed public transport connection, Berlin’s city centre and the Berliner Ring can be reached quickly.
“With the decision to convert buildings A and C of the Mizar Gate Office from office properties to diversified hotel properties, we have reacted very quickly and flexibly to the changed demand situation around BER. We are therefore very pleased that with this second opening of a hotel in the Mizar Gate Office, a future-oriented location for various office space and accommodation offers in the immediate vicinity of BER will be established. The fact that we were able to realise Europe’s first new Candlewood Suites building together with NOVUM Hospitality and IHG in House C of the MGO also underlines the high quality and flexibility of our original planning. My thanks go to all those involved in the project – especially Ed. Züblin AG – for the reliable and cooperative partnership,” says Maik Andrack, Head of Leasing and Head of Business Development at DIEAG.
Dual-brand site at BER now complete
Together with the already opened Holiday Inn – the niu Pax (158 rooms, Building A), the Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport (186 serviced apartments, Building C) forms a modern dual-brand location. While the Holiday Inn – the niu Pax is an upper-midscale hotel geared towards classic short stays, Candlewood Suites complements the offer with fully equipped serviced apartments for longer stays. This will create overnight accommodation for short and long-stay guests in one place directly at BER Airport – ideal for business travellers, project staff and digital nomads.
Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport: the brand’s first newbuilding in Europe
The Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport comprises 186 modern studios and one-bedroom apartments, each with a fully equipped kitchen, free Wi-Fi and a spacious work area. The offer is complemented by barrier-free apartments, a gym open around the clock, the brand’s typical self-service shop “Candlewood Cupboard” and a guest laundry. At the same time, the hotel is writing brand history: it is the first new building of a Candlewood Suites hotel in Europe. While the previous locations emerged from existing hotels of the NOVUM brand acora Living the City, the hotel at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport was developed for the first time as Candlewood Suites.
“As one of IHG’s largest franchise partners, we are proud to open Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport, the brand’s first newly built hotel in Europe. The location directly at BER and the proximity to our Holiday Inn – the niu Pax create exactly the dual-brand offer of short and long stay that we had planned for this location from the beginning,” explains David Etmenan, Chief Executive Officer & Owner, NOVUM Hospitality.
