In the latest round of tenders of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) for onshore wind energy, wpd GmbH has successfully secured contracts for projects with a total capacity of 156.9 megawatts. The Bremen-based project developer and operator thus once again confirms its successful path in a market environment characterized by intense competition and further falling award values.
“With 156.9 megawatts of awarded capacity, we have achieved a very strong result in an extraordinarily demanding market,” says Dr. Hartmut Brösamle, Managing Director of wpd GmbH. “The current round of tenders once again confirms the high quality of our project development and the competitiveness of our portfolio.”
The current round of tenders was again significantly oversubscribed. A tendered quantity of 2,495 MW was offset by 628 bids with a total volume of 6,409 MW. Only 270 bids with a total of 2,499 MW were accepted. At the same time, the average volume-weighted award value fell to 5.06 ct/kWh, the lowest level since the introduction of the current bid price procedure. The results illustrate the continuing high price pressure in the German market.
“Our project pipeline is excellently positioned. The fact that we were able to prevail in such a highly competitive procedure with such a high award volume is the result of the dedicated work of our teams as well as the trusting cooperation with municipalities, land owners and our project partners,” Dr. Brösamle continues.
In the previous round of tenders, wpd had already been awarded contracts for wind energy projects with a total capacity of around 300 megawatts. At the same time, the company has an extensive pipeline of approved projects with an advanced planning stage and is currently building wind turbines with a total capacity of over 1 gigawatt in Germany. This strong starting point creates the best conditions for further growth and the continuous expansion of the company’s own portfolio.
