Operations manager supports customers and partners in future-oriented topics
Wind farm operators and investors are confronted with a growing number of challenges. Today, operational management requires the balancing act between day-to-day operations and forward-looking issues. In addition to high technical availability and economical plant operation, operators increasingly have to address regulatory, safety-relevant and strategic issues. The range of topics is extremely diverse: from information security (NIS-2) and innovations in the EEG 2027 to ESG reporting requirements from the CSRD and new billing procedures in Redispatch 2.0 to cable pooling, control technology for mixed parks, the integration of battery storage systems (BESS), mowing management or, for example, solutions for burglary protection in order to sufficiently meet the physical security requirements of NIS-2.
At WindEnergy in Hamburg, wpd windmanager GmbH & Co. KG will be demonstrating in Hall A1 at Stand 237 how modern operational management supports customers and partners in operating their wind and solar farms in a future-proof manner, even under changing regulatory, technical and economic conditions.
“As an operator, we are increasingly in demand as a strategic partner,” explains Henning Rüpke, Director International Operations at wpd windmanager GmbH & Co. KG. “We have to recognize developments at an early stage, act proactively and continuously develop new solutions. And we have to do so internationally. After all, many of our customers operate their assets in different countries.”
The ISO-certified 24/7 control room, which meets the high requirements of the European NIS-2 directive, plays a very central role in operational management. “We not only use our control room for our own customers, but also offer it to other operators,” explains Axel Stelzer, Director Technical Operations. “Here we monitor over 2,800 turbines worldwide. In the meantime, however, our remote monitoring services go far beyond the actual monitoring.” In the control room, wpd windmanager, for example, controls the new burglary protection system, regulates mowing management or coordinates shutdowns of the turbines in the event of negative electricity prices.
The requirements are increasing. That is why, in addition to the classic operation management of wind and solar farms, the company is continuously expanding its own service portfolio. “As operators, we are always looking at how we can best support operators,” says Jonas Lesch, Head of Sales and Service Development. “For example, we are constantly developing new additional services that we also offer independently of our commercial and technical management: For example, we take over the processing of the municipal fee for operators, create average management plans, take care of new billing procedures in redispatch or monitor compensation and replacement measures.” But the development continues to progress. Topics such as the integration of battery storage systems, the regulation of hybrid parks and new regulatory requirements are constantly creating new fields of activity to which both operators and operators are adapting
